We have planned an exciting weekend of activities for the 2009 Presidio of San Francisco Concours d’Elegance. This inaugural event will celebrate the marques of Packard & Bentley.

Since its inception, the Concours d’ Elegance has provided an opportunity for its attendees to experience automotive history in a purely physical perspective. By placing a Concours against the backdrop of the fabled San Francisco Presidio, this inaugural Concours d’ Elegance combines history of the motorcar with one of California’s truly significant landmarks.

In the tradition of a true Concours d’Elegance, The Presidio of San Francisco Concours will bring motorcar enthusiasts together to enjoy a grand automobile show on the green at the Presidio MAIN POST. This truly spectacular venue is nestled in one of the most beautiful public spaces in the country: the Presidio of San Francisco, a national park characterized by many wooded areas, hills, and scenic vistas overlooking the famed Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Bay.

To kick-off the fabulous Concours weekend on Friday night, Bentley of San Francisco will host the Bentley Bash a fete for Concours entrants at its showroom on Van Ness. The weekend of events will continue with the Concours Raduno at Americano Restaurant on Saturday night.

The Concours itself will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2009 and will combine not only one-hundred years of motorcars on display, but also a Cigar & Cognac Lounge, fashion show, gourmet food and wine tasting. Also special to this event will be both green car and vintage military vehicles displays.

Classic Roadster

Northern California is never boring, always something to do or go see! If you’re in the vicinity of Sacramento the Downtown Lincoln car show might be a nice place to spend the afternoon this upcoming Saturday.

Hosted in, well, Downtown Lincoln Ca, the “Downtown Lincoln” show will be held on Sat the 23rd from 7 Am to 2:30 Pm. Lincoln is about 30 minutes north of Sacramento.

This show attracts about 150 pre 1972 classic cars and trucks. there will also be a special presentation by the Lincoln Arts & Culture Foundation, live music and food. (more…)

Green Air Filters
(Green Coloring Optional)

No, this isn’t some sort of play off St. Patrick’s Day or the punch line to some Red Neck joke. I’m talking about environmentally friendly automotive products. In this case the environment that we’re talking about being friendlier to is the local landfill (city dump).

Unfortunately we live in a disposable society. Use it once, throw it away, and it magically disappears never to be seen again (except for the Red Necks, I’ve heard they use them for Frisbees, but we won’t get into that). The problem with this is they really don’t “go away”, someone just digs a hole puts them (and a bunch of other stuff with them) in the hole and covers it with dirt to be worried about by the next generation.

It’s interesting that for as long as I’ve been working on my own equipment, lawn mowers and other small engines use a reusable air filter. Kind of a pain, but you clean the filter out with a little gas, pour some oil in the filter and squeeze out the excess and reinstall. Kind of a ritual you do every time you use your mower if you’re mowing a dusty area. However with cars the manufacturer seems to stick with the paper filters that need to be thrown away when dirty. A bit of a waste.

But sticking to the subjects us Motor heads are usually more interested in, getting the most out of our buck and will my car run better? The answer to both is Yes! (more…)

American Graffiti Car Show

American Graffiti the classic car and ’60s cult classic (filmed in 1972) was a movie that defined life in the 60’s. For fans of American Graffiti and fans of classic cars, Petaluma’s Salute to American Graffiti is a must attend event.

While it is often mistaken that most of American Graffiti was filmed in Modesto California, the fact is most of the most memorable events were actually filmed in Petaluma in Northern California.

Each year Petaluma hosts its salute to American Graffiti with members of the production staff and often members of the actual cast even show up.

New this year will be the inauguration of Holstein’s Herd, a special display of classic police, fire chief and ambulance vehicles. As always there will be a great selection of classic cars that defined that era in American history.

Be sure to attend May 14, 15, 16. For more information check out American Graffiti
