Looks like Toyota is one of the first out of the gate showing off their Superbowl commercials, or at least the teaser. This years spot stars Kaley Cuoco. The commercial is titled “I Wish” and is kind of a rap disneyland style commercial with super hero, a witch, and a rabbit costume. Slightly funny but it’s not going to make it to the top of my list this year (well, unless the full commercial has a lot more to it). Maybe next year Toyota!

If checking out the 2013 Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson as an arm-chair bidder just isn’t going to be enough for you there is always buying a ticket and being there live for the action. However… Tickets are not going for cheap. There is one way to score on some discount tickets for the big show, Advanced Ticket sales and Barrett-Jackson Night at the pavilion.

First, advanced ticket sales. Purchases made before 1/12/13 are considerably lower than gate prices. For example: on a week pass the advanced ticket price goes for $120 for an adult and $100 for students, Military and seniors. If you wait to purchase on on the day of the show the price goes up to (more…)

It’s time again for the king of collector car auctions, the 2013 Scottsdale Barrett Jackson Auction starts on Sunday January 13 2013 and continues through Sunday January 20 2013. This car show always proves to be one of the best shows of the year with some of the hottest cars imaginable sitting out on the auction block.

There are two ways of enjoying this great automotive event, buy a ticket and head to Arizona where the action is or check out the highlights from the comfort of your recliner with a beer in hand. While both methods are worthy of mention, it’s kind of hard to beat the excitement of standing in the crowd.

Either way the game is the same, which car will reign as king of the auction and take the highest bid? While the following cars may not make the top of the list they are still worth dreaming about.

The Scottsdale Docket

So, what’s on the block this year? Well, scrolling down past some of the antique farm equipment (yah, tractors are cool but, I’m looking for the truly exceptional vehicles) the first to catch my eye is a 1941, Bantam Riviera Roadster. (more…)

When choosing a sedan you no doubt have a number of different criterion that you are looking for. Price, reliability, and style all play an important part of choosing a new car. If you are working within a budget it is even a good idea to check with your insurance agent to see how the price for insurance for the car rates with other cars. However if you have a family, likely one of the highest considerations goes to vehicle safety. This is where reliable third party test play an important role.

Back in June of 2012 there was quite a bit on the news about the 2010 Lexus RX and the gas pedal getting stuck due to the drivers side floor mats sliding up and wedging into the pedal. It was announced today that Toyota has agreed to a $17.35 million settlement due to to speed that Toyota handled the problem.

The problem could occur in both the 2012 Lexus RX 350 and the 2010 Lexus RX 450h. While Toyota hasn’t admitted to any violations, they decided to settle in order to avoid a time consuming dispute. For specification and more information on Lexus car check out our Lexus section of the NorCalCars reviews.

Palo Alto, CA, September, 2012—Because of a recent change in policy, Stanford University athletic practice fields will no longer be the home of the Palo Alto Concours d’Elegance. Ray Purpur, Deputy Director of Athletic, Physical Education and Recreation who is a strong supporter of the Concours, informed the organization earlier this month that the Concours will have to seek a new venue going forward into 2013.

The Concours Executive Director, Christine Cheshire, indicated they were aware of a pending University change in policy was forth coming. However, they were not prepared to receive notice so soon. The Palo Alto Concours d’ Elegance has been held on Stanford Athletic practice fields for the past 38 years.
The Concours, the charitable arm of the Palo Alto Host Lions Club was formed 47 years ago by a group of prominent business men from Palo Alto and Menlo Park who were members of the Palo Alto Host Lions Club. Their goal was to create an annual fund raiser that would help their club raise money for local charities.

Since its inception 47 years ago, the Concours has raised and donated over 1.78 million dollars to over 41 charities within their local community who receive little to no other funding from any other source. (more…)

Yah!!!! I’m a winner!

Every once in a while in a rare fit of boredom I read through some of my spam mail. It always strikes me as interesting to see what apparently still works. Today I just found out that Tata has pulled my name (or email address) out of the billions of possibilities (and I don’t even live in their country), and choose to give me £950,000.00 GBP (hmm. I don’t live in Great Britain either….).

Now, all it is going to take is for me to give them a whole bunch of my personal information and oh yah, a scanned copy of some form of identification. Nothing suspicious about this at all right?!? And one more minor detail, if I tell anyone about this I’m automatically disqualified!!! Yah, Baby! That one got me running to my scanner so I can copy (more…)

While I don’t report on many car shows outside of California this New York show caught my interest. The Syracuse Nationals is one of New York’s largest and most popular car shows with usually more than 7,000 cars registered. Comparing that to the 2,000 maximum you get at other large car shows like Kool April Nites, this one is huge.

Nice thing about a show of this size is that there is usually a wide variety of things to do and the Syracuse Nationals are no exception. To keep the non-car show enthusiasts interest there is also a Women’s world! This is an indoor section of the show devoted to handmade arts and crafts and other product booths.

I just read an interesting article from CBC news in Canada. Apparently, brake pads containing asbestos a material known to car lung cancer (mesothelioma) can still be purchased and the label doesn’t necessarily tell you that asbestos was added to the pad. Being that Canada is a close neighbor and cars are frequently driven from country to country this puts both backyard and professional mechanics in the US at risk also.
