In an ongoing effort to take the lead in using environmentally friendly technology, Honda has announced that it will be adding a Class 8 hybrid electric truck to it’s fleet for transporting service parts between its parts centers and dealers. Notably this is the first use of this “green” truck in the industry.
“We’re excited to add this environmentally advanced truck to our fleet,” said Jim Roach, senior vice president of Parts and Service for American Honda. “With our truck fleet driving hundreds of thousands of miles per day, we feel this is a great opportunity for Honda to further reduce its carbon footprint.”
So how much is it estimated that this one truck will help? Built for Honda by Peterbilt Motors Company, the Smartway(SM)-certified Model 386 hybrid truck is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by almost 45 tons per year, as compared to its diesel counterpart.
In a further effort to increase it’s stance as an environment friendly company Honda is adding a Class 7 Medium duty truck to it parts centers in Alpharetta, GA and Irving, Texas.
Honda is continuing to test and evaluate these trucks to compare them to similar trucks over the same route.
