Jaguar C-X16

Jaguar C-x16 performance

Start with a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 capable of 375hp and 332 lb-ft and attach it to a light weight aluminum chassis and you come up with the new C-X16 with a top speed of 186 mph and an acceleration of 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds. To help lighten the load carbon fiber has been used for bracing and additional rigidity (as well as for aesthetic considerations).

An interesting performance addition is a 173lb-ft electric motor that can be turned on (a ‘Push to Pass’ boost button mounted on the steering Wheel) for up to 10 seconds to give about 50% more torque for passing.

Even the Climate control system which both cools the cabin and is used to cool the batteries and electric motors is electric to further reduce drag on the engine.

Jaguar C-x16 as a EV

There are three purposes for the EV components of the C-x16.

  • First to give that extra boost when needed with the “Push to Pass” button (Electric-Nitro) on the steering wheel.
  • Second is to kick in when needed to reduce fuel consumption
  • Third is to be used as a full ev (electric-only) capable of bringing the C-x16 up to 50 mph with mild throttle use.

Recharging of the batteries is accomplished by energy recovery. Jaguar employs a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS). The battery pack is predominantly charged through a rear axle electro-hydraulic brake energy regeneration system.

While the C-X16 is only a concept at this time the design features of the “Push To Pass” will do wonders in reducing the EV is only for “Nerds and Eco-Freaks” mentality. Really what sports car buff wouldn’t enjoy another 173lb-ft boost (or should we say, “Electric Nitro”?) at his disposal?
