Kia Soul
2010 Kia Soul

The first thing I thought when I saw this car was; Shoe Box Car! While the Kia Soul looks a lot like the Toyota Scion (another shoe box car) I also think that it looks like the Nissan Cube (That even sounds like a shoe box car) but has many differences from them both.

First lets look at the facts of the Soul. The Kia Soul has four different trims, the Soul, the Soul! (Exclaim), the Soul Sport, and the Soul+. The Soul and the Soul+ have a 1.6-liter engine. Soul! and the Soul Sport both have the 2.0-liter, all being in-line four-cylinder, aluminum block engines. All four of the trims are 161.6 inches (13.5 feet) long and come with hydraulic, power assisted vacuum brakes.

Because we all like safety, the Soul has many different safety features, such as the anti-lock brake system, the tire pressure monitoring system, and the front and rear crumple zones. And that was just on the outside! On the inside it has front active head rests to keep your neck from injury, an electronic stability control, and six side airbags.

The Soul has a wide stance with a rounded nose and large headlamps that appear to give it a younger more laid back look, which is more appealing to the younger car audience. The Soul is meant for cruising down a crowded city street, or for using for riding along a beach. The body of the Soul has a wheel arch to it that gives it a crease that makes for a tough style that looks cool and matches the front.

If you decide to upgrade to a Soul! (or anything beside the basic Soul), it also comes with a keyless remote entry and privacy glass on the back and rear side windows. That Soul Sport comes additionally with a power sunroof and fog lamps.

So the Kia Soul would be a really good car for teenagers and also for people that think that they are teenagers, because of all of the personal effects that the Souls give to the driver. Another advantage the Kia Soul has over the other shoe box cars is that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave it an overall average of 65 out of 115, which is higher than all the other cars in its sub-compact class!

So, I rate the Kia Soul best in it’s class because of it’s great styling, affordable price, and safety features.
